Dinosaur footprints discovered 70 million-year-old

Some scientists believe that they have found dinosaur footprints that 70 million years old and was first found in New Zealand.

Impressions are spread in six places in northwest Nelson on South Island, with as many as 20 tracks in one place, according to Radio New Zealand, Saturday.

Sedimentologi GNS scientists have been studying Greg Browne's footprints over the years and believe all of these tracks made sauropod, a dinosaur predator of the plant with a long neck and tail, the body 6 feet long and weighing several tons.

He said the footprints were found on the sand beach. Footprints were soon covered with mud suspected.

"Just a coincidence that all traces were found there, the trail is almost always broken. In the existing environment of wind, waves and waves are not actually there might be preserved footprints on the beach, "said Browne, as quoted by Radio New Zealand.

Footprints also gave the first sign, that dinosaurs once roamed the South Island region.

New Zealand paleontologist Joan Wiffen found the first evidence that dinosaurs once lived in New Zealand after discovering the fossil bones of Hawke Bay on the North Island.

However, no bones ever found in South Island. In 1975, female scientists found a fossil bone is evident is part of that vertebrate.

The first animal known as the dinosaurs of Earth from New Zealand, or theropod, a carnivorous animal has a 7 meters long and 2 meters high and walk on two legs.

Browne has made silicone molds some footprints and a report describing these findings is planned broadcast on the New Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics of the week.
